ABBY HASKINS
ARTIST STATEMENT
There’s far too much hesitation in my body. I hold titles like artist and writer close to myself so that only I can contradict them, or question their correctness. My uncertainty denies musician and daughter so that I can take them right back with zeal.
I write frequently and fondly because I believe there is not enough poetry. Clarity often begs my overly lyrical prose to be reigned in.
Slowly, I am reaching with one hand towards that poetry of sculpture, painting, and performance. Hesitation sings a sestina, and I still shield myself with the second hand.
I lay in the summer grass in speckled sunlight. It is all still starting to make sense to me.
